... The Easter Story, Jesus Crucifixion and Resurrection. I remember Easter as a little girl, the Easter clothes, the Easter bunny, and how can I forget the infamous Easter poems. We kids had to master getting up before a church full of congregants and say speeches we had hope to memorize. If we were lucky, we got the three word Easter speech, 'Happy Easter Everyone!'
As I grew older my memories of Easter were broaden. Preachers had sermons on the Seven last words of Christ, the Last Supper, the Betrayal of Jesus, the Death of Jesus, the Burial of Jesus, and the Resurrection of Jesus. Everyone told a different story about the event, but the highlight was Jesus rose on the third day!
When I think about what Jesus endured on the cross, the flogging and the ridicule, it makes me appreciate his death, burial and resurrection all the more. I have grown to appreciate 2 Corinthians 4:17 on another level. "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory."
Compared to what Jesus had to suffer for us, no wonder the word 'light' affliction was used to compare and contrast what we will receive if we just don't give up the fight.
